Bio
Well, Here I Am.
and bits from the past:
They call me Reid Ferguson, and I'm glad people decide to, since it is my honest-to-God name. I grew up on the Delmarva(lous) Peninsula, specifically in the small coastal community of Broadkill Beach, DE (it's not even a town). I moved to Charlotte, NC about 14 years ago and I'm still here, working on creating my first album. A few singles have begun to trickle out showcasing my own unique blend of Appalachia, folk, alt-country, and Southern Gothic music that I guess most people would call Americana. Some have referred to my style as "unique, mezmerizing, and all my own."
My great-grandmom Betty said it best; "That boy, right there, he's got the music in him,'" as I sat in front of her at the age of 13 with a Fender Squire electric guitar playing about the only three riffs I knew at the time. She was from rural WV, like didn't have plumbing until the late 70's rural WV. She was real. And she often had amazing gut-feelings about the people around her. She was spot on with me.
Some years rolled on and I was just another misplaced teenage guitarist playing every southern rock riff he could learn who hadn't found his singing voice yet. Then one day I stumbled upon a song titled "My Sweet Annette" by the Drive-By Truckers. Patterson Hood's gritty, true-to-life delivery of that story got me thinking, "This is what music is supposed to sound like," and "I think I can do that." Fast forward to over a decade later, through countless open mics, artist showcases, a lot of crumpled paper, cell phone recordings, and encouragement, we have the workings of the Reid Ferguson sound.
Its a sound that is all its own, from east of the Mason-Dixon line down to the Old North State. It is a sound based on all I've lived and all I've seen; all that's pissed me off or brought me joy in between. You can hear my latest release, "Midnight Curve," as of now. Go ahead and check out what I've got coming up on my schedule. Lets hang out and trade a few stories.
